Calgary Families Fund Education for International Youth

Calgary, AB - While families in Alberta will soon start making back-to-school plans, countless parents in developing countries cannot afford to pay for their children’s education. This is one of the issues the United Nations encourages the world to consider on International Youth Day August 12th, and it’s the reason a group of Albertans started a charity called HYTES (Helping Youth Through Educational Scholarships).

HYTES is a local success story -- the Alberta-based charity has been operating for three years and has so far provided almost 250 scholarships in countries such as Uganda, Zambia and Guatemala. The group is 100% volunteer-run, and money for scholarships is raised entirely through individual donations and fundraising events. Every cent goes straight to helping kids in the developing world empower themselves, their families and their communities through education.

So, why not bring your family out to their annual Summer Fun Fundraiser on Sunday August 10th and help youth in developing countries pursue their dreams? There will be face painting and a supervised play area for the kids, snacks and a silent auction for the grown-ups, and a live performance by The Ad Hoc band. There could be no easier or more entertaining way for your family to reach out to other families from around the world.

When: 1:00 – 4:00, Sunday, August 10th
Where: South Calgary Community Hall, 3130 - 16 Street SW, Calgary
How much: $8/person or $16/family in advance, $10 and $20 at the door
Why: To raise funds for scholarships for children in Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Uganda and Guatemala
(Cheque or cash only for the silent auction).
