There are many opportunities for teachers
to explore the strands of the new Alberta
Learning Social Studies Program of Studies
through an examination of the situations
pertaining to education in Africa. Global
citizenship is an underlying theme and
students are required to:
- Critically examine multiple perspectives
and connections among local, national
and global issues
- Develop [their] understanding of
citizenship and identity
- Explore. interdependence, broaden
students' global consciousness and empathy
with world conditions
- Acquire a better comprehension of
tensions pertaining to economic relationships,
sustainability and universal human rights
